Hand Carved Primitive Wooden Nandi Bull

Hand Carved Primitive Wooden Nandi Bull

This is a very old, primitive hand carving of a Nandi Bull, as worshiped in India. The worship of Shiva and Nandi can be traced to 1000-3000 BC. Perhaps Mango wood, very hard, there is still a nice amount of paint that is intact, but most has peeled and dropped off long ago.

Nandi's are hard to come by as they are one of the most important elements in Hindu Iconography.
This Nandi came from a container of antiques originally sourced in Delhi, India. It appears as being carved by a single block of wood. The exact origin and age is unknown, but estimated at 60-90 years old.

Natural cracks and imperfections are found throughout as one would expect of an older wooden object. The integrity of the carving is fine.

Dimensions are: 9.75" tall or high X 7.25" long or wide and 2" thick.

All sales are final.
